The Joy of Producing

One of my producer friends told me that he's never been involved in a production where he wasn't seconds away from blowing his brains out. "The gun is always at your head," he told me. "You just need to make it through each day without pulling the trigger." Now, of course that is a bit over-dramatic, but the sentiment is there.

We held a production meeting yesterday for The Misguided, and my head is still spinning. The goal of yesterday's meeting was to complete shot production and scheduling. However, it ended up as a re-visit to the script, and by the end of the day we had managed to put the script into a complete re-write. So, in order to accommodate the added time, we moved the shooting dates back to mid-November.

I do feel better after yesterday's meeting, though. There is much about producing that I am still learning, and the process is a great experience. And I feel that we will have a superior product when we are finished. The hard part is adapting to all the changes along the way without losing momentum. And, of course, not pulling the trigger!

It's good to hear that the trigger is far from being pulled! The time and stress that goes into the planning now will pay huge dividends in the end. Your guidance and organizational skills are sure to make this an excellent production. Keep your chin up and enjoy the experience! -A
